OPEN COUNTRY A/T+
ALREADY IN THE NOVEMBER 2016 REQUIREMENTS
Since the establishment of the tire labelling in November 2012, the rules are evolving and becoming more and more drastic. And starting from November 1st, tires with 3 sound waves can no longer be manufactured. The mixed application type tires, made to be used on the road and off the road, generally have a serrated, aggresive tread pattern and generate road noise. The OPEN COUNTRY A/T model has that aggresive tread pattern so prized by the 4x4 owners and has been registering remarkable commercial success, but it can no longer be made starting November 2016. So TOYO TIRES decided to come up with a replacement for it.
A QUIET TIRE WITH AN AGGRESIVE LOOK: A BIG UNDERTAKING
The specifications are simple: having a tire similar to the best selling OPEN COUNTRY A/T, with an aggresive tread design that will pass the noise standards of November 2016. As these two criteria are in opposition, the engineers must eliminate a certain number of technical obstacles and make THE tire that meets the criteria. We are in January 2015 and the first OPEN COUNTRY A/T plus are available for sale. As far as the tread design goes, one must be an expert to notice the difference between the two models! This is a crucial point for following on the success of the OPEN COUNTRY A/T. The problems regarding the sound emissions have been solved by developing an asymmetric tread design. That's the big novelty! Subsequently, the road noise is reduced by 3 dB. This may seem poor, but it's in fact huge because the decibel is measured on a logarithmic scale.
A GLOBAL IMPROVEMENT OF ALL PERFORMANCES
It is equally important to note that all performances on wet roads have been seriously improved. The rolling resistance is lowered. The all terrain performances remain top level!
